Barista cover letter

Barista letters should name the bar and the station. Enthusiasm for coffee is common and thin. The open, the milk, or the rush you already work is the letter.

Resume tips for a barista

How to open

Name their kind of shop and the station you have held. If you have not worked their volume, say the bar you do know. Mention an allergy or a recipe standard only if it was yours.

A station

Espresso, milk, or the handoff window is enough. Say whether you opened.

A standard you followed

A recipe card, a dial-in, or a cleaning close shows you can be trusted with their machine.

The shift

Mornings and closes are different jobs. If you cannot work the posted rush, do not send the letter.

An example paragraph

This is an example to adapt, not a letter from a real applicant. Use it only where every detail is true for you.

I am applying for morning espresso. I have opened that station, dialed in the grinder, steamed milk to a shop standard, and called allergy changes before drinks left the bar.

What to skip

Skip recipes you have not made, equipment you have not cleaned, and a speech about passion. Skip a cash drawer you did not count if the posting requires it and you have not done it.

Questions

Should I mention competition or art?
Only if you are applying where that is the job. For most bars the station and the rush matter more.
What if their machine is different?
Say the machine or the method you know. Do not claim theirs. Shops expect you to learn their recipe, not to invent a history on it.
