Business analyst cover letter
Business analyst letters fail when they list listening skills and never mention a process. Name their process and one requirement or map you have already produced.
Resume tips for a business analyst
How to open
State the domain and the artifact in the first lines. If you have not worked in their industry, say the kind of process that is similar.
Who you sat with
Name the role you interviewed or observed, not a particular person. That shows you did not write the requirement from the conference room only.
What you handed off
Say who received the document and what they did with it, if you know. If you do not know whether it was built, do not claim the system changed.
No solution theater
Do not arrive with a fake future-state for their company. You have not seen the operation.
An example paragraph
This is an example to adapt, not a letter from a real applicant. Use it only where every detail is true for you.
You need someone who can write a claims-intake requirement with the people who use it. I did that with adjusters, kept the fields they refused to lose, and handed the document to the team that configured the system.
What to skip
Skip a methodology sermon, a promise to align stakeholders, and any system change you did not see happen.
Questions
- What if the posting mixes analyst titles?
- Answer the artifacts they list: a report, a requirement, or a process map. Do not claim all three if you have done one.
- Should I criticize their current process?
- No. You have not worked it. Describe a process you do know.
