Frontend developer cover letter
Frontend letters should name the screen in the posting and one you have built. The resume has the library list. The letter is the overlap: the user, the interaction, and the handoff.
Resume tips for a frontend developer
How to open
Name the surface they describe and the closest screen you owned. Mention the user. If their library is one you have not shipped, say what you have shipped instead of pretending.
One interaction
A filter, a form, or an error state is enough. Describe the behavior, not the adjective "pixel perfect."
How you worked with design
Say whether you implemented a spec or had to invent states the spec missed. Both are frontend work when they are true.
Quality you actually checked
Mention a keyboard path, a small-screen pass, or a review you did only if you did it.
An example paragraph
This is an example to adapt, not a letter from a real applicant. Use it only where every detail is true for you.
The role is the search screen in your logged-in product. I owned a filter bar that kept the query in the address and used the states already in the design system.
What to skip
Skip a lecture on frameworks, a design you did not make, and any claim that you will raise a metric you have not seen. Skip a library you would be learning on their time written as current expertise.
Questions
- Do they expect a live coding sample in the letter?
- No. Offer a link if you have one you can share. The letter itself should stay short.
- What if I am stronger in one library than theirs?
- Say the library you have shipped and that theirs is adjacent. Do not put their library in the letter as experience.
