Plumber cover letter
Plumbing letters should state the license level and residential or commercial before anything else. One system you already repair is enough. Shops are checking the card and the van, not a biography.
How to open
Name the level on your card and the setting. Say service or rough-in. If you are an apprentice, apply as an apprentice. Do not borrow a journeyman title for the letter.
One system
Drains, heaters, or fixtures are concrete. Mention permits if you were the person who dealt with them.
Gas and specialty tickets
Include them only when they are on the card and the posting asks. A willingness to get the ticket is a different sentence.
Tools and the van
Say if you have run a service van. Riding along is not the same claim.
An example paragraph
This is an example to adapt, not a letter from a real applicant. Use it only where every detail is true for you.
I am applying for residential service. I hold a journeyman card in this state, I clear drains, replace fixtures, and set water heaters, and I pull permits when the job requires them.
What to skip
Skip a license level you have not reached, a specialty ticket you do not hold, and commercial process piping written as if it were a house call. Skip code numbers recited as a performance.
Questions
- Do shops want a letter?
- Often they want the card and the setting. Use any summary line for those two facts.
- What if I am licensed but new to their city?
- Say where the card was issued and that local recognition is separate if you have not finished it.
