Welder cover letter
Welder letters should name the process and the metal in the first lines. Shops are matching a test. A work ethic sentence does not say whether you can pass theirs.
How to open
Name MIG, TIG, or stick, the metal, and the shop type you know. Mention a test you passed. If their position is one you have not welded, say the position you have.
The test
Name the shop test or the qualification in words you can support with paper. Do not invent a code clause.
Drawings
Say if you welded from prints or from a fit-up someone else owned.
Production versus repair
A booth that runs the same part all day and a maintenance repair are different. Use the closer one.
An example paragraph
This is an example to adapt, not a letter from a real applicant. Use it only where every detail is true for you.
You need wire-feed welding on carbon steel. I have run that process from shop drawings in flat and horizontal positions and passed the shop bend test for the procedure.
What to skip
Skip a test you have not passed, a metal you have not run, and a certification number you are guessing. Skip an inspection title you do not hold.
Questions
- What if my papers are from a previous shop?
- Say so, and bring them. Do not claim the new shop's test until you have taken it.
- Should I mention safety cards?
- Yes if the site requires one you hold. A card is not a substitute for the weld test.
