HVAC technician resume tips
An HVAC technician resume is a license and a class of system. Residential service, commercial rooftop units, and refrigeration are different calls. Write the credential you hold, including refrigerant handling only if you are certified for it. Installation and service are both legitimate. Say which one filled your days.

What to put first
Put the license or registration and the refrigerant certification, if you have them, near your name. Then residential or commercial, and service or install. The first bullets should name equipment you have worked on: furnaces, air handlers, heat pumps, or rooftop units.
Service versus install
A maintenance agreement and a change-out crew teach different skills. Describe the calls: no cooling, a failed blower, a thermostat, or a new system you set. Do not claim a refrigerant repair you are not certified to make.
How you diagnosed
Say what you measured and what you replaced, in shop language you can defend. A filter you sold is not a diagnosis. Skip a made-up efficiency figure.
The ticket and the customer
If you wrote the ticket, ordered the part, and explained the repair to the occupant or the facility manager, say so. Commercial sites and homes are different conversations.
An example line
Adapt this only where it is true for you. It is a shape for a bullet, not a claim that a particular person did this work.
Residential service technician: diagnosed no-cooling calls on split systems, replaced failed capacitors and contactors I had been trained to change, and recovered refrigerant only on jobs my certification covered.
What to leave off
Leave off a refrigerant certification you do not hold, equipment you have not serviced, and a sales quota if you were not the seller. Leave off efficiency numbers. Leave off a commercial chiller if you have only worked houses, or the reverse.
Questions
- How should I write the refrigerant credential?
- Use the words on the card. Do not translate it into a different class. If you are not certified, leave refrigerant handling off the resume entirely.
- Should I list every manufacturer?
- Name the type of equipment. A brand helps if you can still service it. A logo list is weaker than the call you ran.
