Medical assistant resume tips
A medical assistant resume is a credential, a clinic type, and the tasks you were allowed to perform. Rooming a patient, taking vital signs, giving an injection you were trained for, drawing blood, and working the front schedule are different skills. Write only the ones your employer and your state let you do. Do not upgrade observation into independent practice.

What to put first
Put any certification you hold, in the issuer's words, near your name, and name the setting: primary care, pediatrics, specialty, or urgent care. The first bullets should split back-office clinical work from front-desk work if you did both.
Rooming and procedures
Name the tasks: history you recorded, vital signs, point-of-care tests, injections, or phlebotomy. If you only prepared the tray and a nurse performed the task, say prepared. Equipment you have not used stays off the page.
The record
Name the record system if you entered orders, messages, or vitals in it. Inbasket work and prior-authorization packets are real duties. Do not claim you diagnosed or wrote a plan a clinician signed as if it were yours.
Front desk, separately
Scheduling, insurance cards, and check-in are often part of the job. Give them their own line so a clinical reviewer can see the rooming work was not only the lobby.
An example line
Adapt this only where it is true for you. It is a shape for a bullet, not a claim that a particular person did this work.
Roomed adults in a primary care clinic: recorded vitals in the record, gave injections I was signed off to give, and booked follow-ups at the window when the clinician asked.
What to leave off
Leave off procedures you have not performed, a nursing license you do not hold, and any patient story. Leave off a certification that has lapsed. Leave off "passionate about care" in place of the room.
Questions
- Should I list every rotation from a training program?
- Label student practice as student practice. After you have a job, lead with the clinic tasks you were signed off to do.
- What if my state limits injections or blood draws?
- Say the tasks you were allowed. Do not copy a posting's procedure list into your skills.
