Retail store manager resume tips

A retail store manager resume should name the kind of store and the levers you held: the schedule, the floor, the till, hiring, or a shipment. A big-box store, a specialty shop, and a grocery department are different jobs. "Passionate about retail" does not say which one.

What to put first

State the merchandise and the format. Then your scope: one store, a department, or a district if that was real. The first bullets should be what you did each week, not a corporate value statement.

The week

Scheduling, opening and closing, freight, and the floor during a rush are the job. Write the ones you owned. If a district manager set the payroll hours, say you scheduled inside that limit rather than implying you set the budget.

People

Hiring, coaching, and whether you could send someone home are scope. A key-holder who closed alone has a different story from a manager with department leads. Tell the true one.

The money, carefully

If you were accountable for a till or a loss-prevention routine, say the routine. Do not quote a sales rank you cannot explain or a payroll figure that was assigned to you as a target you did not set.

An example line

Adapt this only where it is true for you. It is a shape for a bullet, not a claim that a particular person did this work.

Managed a specialty apparel store: wrote the weekly schedule inside a set hour budget, opened freight before the weekend, and hired the part-time team that covered nights.

What to leave off

Leave off sales rankings you cannot source, a district title you did not have, and slogans from the brand book. Leave off cameras or loss-prevention claims that describe other people's misconduct in any detail.

Questions

Should I include sales numbers?
Only if you can explain the period and that the number was your store's, and only if sharing it does not break a company rule. The weekly levers are enough without them.
What if I was an assistant manager?
Use that title. Describe any manager duties you already had. Do not give yourself the store manager title to match a posting.
