Truck driver resume tips
A truck driver resume is a license, a kind of freight, and a kind of route. Local delivery, regional work, and over-the-road driving are different lives, and fleets hire them differently. Name the class of commercial license you hold and the endorsements that are actually on the card. Do not claim equipment you have not been released to drive.

What to put first
Put the license class, the state, and the endorsements near your name. Then the freight: dry van, refrigerated, flatbed, tanker, or local box truck, only where it matches the card and the job you did. Say whether you were home daily or out on the road.
The route and the freight
Describe the work a dispatcher would recognize: live loads, drop and hook, stores on a set route, or a dedicated customer. Say if you touched the freight or only the trailer. Do not invent a mile count.
The equipment
Name the transmission and the trailer type you were released on. An automatic fleet and a manual fleet are different applications. A truck you drove in school is training, not a job, unless you label it as training.
Compliance as work
Pre-trip inspections, hours rules, and the log you kept are part of the job. Say you ran them. Do not claim a perfect roadside history you cannot stand behind, and do not hide a license status a carrier will check.
An example line
Adapt this only where it is true for you. It is a shape for a bullet, not a claim that a particular person did this work.
Local dry-van driver on a day route: pre-tripped the tractor, delivered drop-and-hook trailers to the same warehouses, and closed the electronic log before the drive home.
What to leave off
Leave off endorsements that are not on your license, equipment you have not been released to drive, and accident stories told as heroics. Leave off a class of license you do not hold. Leave off mileage boasts.
Questions
- Should I include a training-school job?
- Label it as training. Carriers separate school miles from employment. Dates should match what the license record will show.
- What if I am switching from local to over the road, or the reverse?
- Say the route you have driven. Do not describe a day cab as an over-the-road seat.
