ApplyASAP

Work authorization and sponsorship

These two questions are facts. One asks where you may work without a new visa. The other asks whether you will need the employer to sponsor you now or later. Wanting the job does not change either answer. This page is not legal advice.

What the employer is checking

Employers ask because some roles can be filled only by someone who can work in that country now, and sponsorship changes their process. They want a yes or no they can rely on. A hopeful story is not an answer. A wrong fact here wastes their time and yours, and it surfaces again when they collect eligibility paperwork.

How to answer honestly

Answer for the country the form names. If you can work there without sponsorship, say so. If you need sponsorship now, or you will need it later, say yes to the sponsorship question even when you can start before that need. Do not answer the way you wish the situation were. If you are unsure, check before you submit.

A short example

These are shapes, not answers from a real applicant. Use the stronger one only where every detail is true for you.

Good. I can work in the United States on my current authorization, and I will need sponsorship later. I am answering yes to sponsorship because of that later need, not because of how I hope the form is screened.

Bad. I put no for sponsorship so the application would not be filtered. I will sort the visa out after someone decides they like me.

Pitfalls

  • Answering no to sponsorship because you fear a screen, when you will need it.
  • Naming a country the form did not ask about and skipping the one it did.
  • Treating a permit with an end, or a future need, as if it were permanent authorization.

How ApplyASAP answers it

You tell ApplyASAP where you can work and whether you need sponsorship. Later forms reuse those answers. ApplyASAP does not infer a visa from your resume, and it never invents experience to make authorization look stronger.

ApplyASAP drafts answers from your real resume and never invents experience. It does not change your employers, dates, degrees, or titles, and it does not invent a number, a certification, or a person you managed.

Questions

Are authorization and sponsorship the same question?
No. You can be allowed to work today and still need sponsorship later. Forms often ask both. Answer each sentence as it is written.
What if the form only says eligible to work?
Answer the fact for the country of the job. Do not add a visa story the field did not request, and do not hide one the field did request.
