How to target jobs in Portland
Oregon
Portland searches mix a city with a ring of suburbs that hire for different work. Apparel companies, semiconductor plants, hospitals, and the port can all say Portland. They do not want the same resume, and they are often not inside the same city limits. Portland, Maine is a different market entirely.
This page does not estimate salaries or how many jobs are open. Those figures go stale, and there is no source for them here.
Apparel and footwear
Nike's campus is in Beaverton. Columbia Sportswear and the North American offices of Adidas are in the metro too. Design, product, merchandising, and operations roles should show the work you did on a product or a season, not a fondness for the brands. A store job and a headquarters job belong together only when your bullets show both kinds of duty.
Semiconductors
Intel's campuses in Hillsboro hire technicians, engineers, and the people who keep a factory running. Name the part of a process you have actually touched. Do not borrow clean-room vocabulary from the posting if your background is a different kind of plant, or an office.
Hospitals and the port
OHSU, Legacy, and Providence hire clinicians and a large staff around them. The Port of Portland and the employers on its terminals hire operators and coordinators. A ward, a lab, and a terminal are different shifts and different proof. A license belongs on the resume only when it is yours and current.
The kinds of employers
You will see suburban headquarters, a semiconductor employer, health systems, the port, universities, and public agencies. Many postings that say Portland are in Beaverton, Hillsboro, Tigard, or across the river in Vancouver, Washington. The state line matters when the role is licensed.
How to aim an application
In your location notes, name the cities you will drive to, and say so if Vancouver, Washington is out. Keep an apparel resume, a factory resume, and a clinical resume apart. Use the posting's title when it matches work you have done, including titles that sound institutional.
What to have ready
For clinical roles, the Oregon credential is the one local hospitals look up. For the plants, be plain about the shift and the tools you have used. For headquarters roles, show the scope you owned. If you cannot be on site for the days they named, skip the posting.

Questions
- Does Portland on a posting mean the city proper?
- Often it means a suburb, or Vancouver, Washington. Read the site before you decide the drive works. Portland, Maine is not this job market.
- Is every Portland job at a brand or a chip plant?
- No. Hospitals, the port, universities, and public agencies hire people with no apparel or semiconductor background.
