Administrative assistant cover letter
Assistant letters should name the office and one system you already run. A promise to be organized is not a system. The calendar, the front desk, or the packet is the system.
Resume tips for an administrative assistant
How to open
Say who you would support, based on the posting, and who you have supported. Name the task that overlaps. If you have not supported that kind of office, say the task that still matches.
A decision you made
One example of prioritizing or escalating shows judgment better than a list of traits.
Volume in words
Describe a heavy day without inventing a count: a clinic morning, a board-meeting week, a month of expense reports. If you know a real figure and can explain it, you may use it, but you do not need one.
Tools second
Mention a tool only if the posting names it and you have used it, or to be honest that you have used a different one.
An example paragraph
This is an example to adapt, not a letter from a real applicant. Use it only where every detail is true for you.
You need support for managers in a clinic. I kept external calendars for two clinic managers, prepared credentialing packets, and held non-urgent calls until the patient morning was over.
What to skip
Skip a list of personality traits, confidential anecdotes, and any tool you would need to learn from scratch written as if you already know it.
Questions
- Should I include typing or software scores?
- Only if the employer asked and you have a result from a test you actually took. Otherwise the tasks matter more.
- What if I supported one very senior person?
- Say that, and name the tasks. Senior support is not automatically broader support.
