Construction manager cover letter

Construction letters should name the project type and one lever. Admiration for the skyline is wasted. Submittals, the meeting, or the punch list shows you have done the job.

Resume tips for a construction manager

How to open

Name their building type and your closest seat. Say the lever their posting emphasizes. If you have been in the trailer and not in the field, or the reverse, say so.

One document or meeting

A submittal log, a request log, or the subcontractor meeting is enough.

Safety as a duty you had

Mention a meeting or a card you held. Do not claim a company rate.

No price tag

Do not put a contract value in the letter. It is unnecessary and often confidential.

An example paragraph

This is an example to adapt, not a letter from a real applicant. Use it only where every detail is true for you.

You are staffing a tenant interior. I was the project engineer: I logged submittals and information requests, joined the subcontractor meeting, and kept the punch list used at closeout.

What to skip

Skip a trade you have not run, a contract sum, and a claim that you replaced the superintendent or the architect. Skip software you have not used.

Questions

Should I attach a project list?
A short list of types and roles is enough if they ask. Leave off owner-confidential commercial terms.
What if I am coming from a trade into management?
Say the trade and the coordination you have already done. Do not write a journeyman history as if you already ran the submittal log.
