Construction manager resume tips
A construction manager resume should name the kind of project and the lever you held. A ground-up building, a tenant interior, and a civil site do not read the same. Schedule, subcontractors, submittals, and the daily site are different jobs. Do not claim a trade you did not run, and do not invent a contract value.
Cover letter for a construction manager
What to put first
State the project type and your seat: assistant, project engineer, superintendent, or manager, using the title you had. Then the lever. If you tracked the schedule but a superintendent ran the field, say that split.
Paper that moved the job
Submittals, requests for information, change paperwork, and the meeting you ran are evidence. Name the ones you owned. "Oversaw the project" hides whether you wrote the paper or walked the floor.
The field
If you coordinated subcontractors, deliveries, or a safety meeting, say which. A card the site required belongs only if you held it. Do not recite a fatal-incident story.
Drawings and cost, carefully
Say if you read drawings, logged changes, or tracked costs against a budget someone else owned. Do not quote a contract sum. Do not claim you designed the structure if you coordinated it.
An example line
Adapt this only where it is true for you. It is a shape for a bullet, not a claim that a particular person did this work.
Project engineer on a tenant interior: logged submittals and requests for information, sat in the subcontractor meeting, and kept the punch list the superintendent used at closeout.
What to leave off
Leave off a trade license you do not hold, a contract value, and a safety record told as a statistic. Leave off software you have not used to run a job. Leave off design credit that belongs to the architect or the engineer.
Questions
- Should I name the projects?
- Name the type and your seat. A project name helps if you may share it. The lever matters more than a famous address.
- What if I was a superintendent and the posting says manager?
- Use superintendent and describe the field control you had. Do not retitle yourself. The paperwork you did not own should stay off.
