Lab technician cover letter
Lab letters should name the bench and one quality check. A fascination with science is not accessioning. The specimen, the instrument, or the control you already run is the letter.
Resume tips for a lab technician
How to open
Name their lab type and the bench. State your credential if you hold one. If you have been an assistant and they want a technologist, do not blur the titles.
A control you respected
Stopping a run, rejecting a specimen, or documenting a temperature is stronger than a list of departments.
Phlebotomy, if separate
Say whether drawing was part of your job. Many benches do not include it, and pretending otherwise fails the first week.
No clinical advice
You handle specimens and results within your authority. Do not write as if you interpreted a diagnosis for a patient.
An example paragraph
This is an example to adapt, not a letter from a real applicant. Use it only where every detail is true for you.
You need help on a hospital chemistry bench. I have accessioned samples, loaded the analyzer, and stopped a run when controls were outside the procedure's range.
What to skip
Skip assays you have not run, a credential you do not hold, and patient details. Skip a claim that you supervised the lab.
Questions
- Should I mention a shift?
- Yes if you have worked nights or weekends and the posting needs them. Labs staff by shift.
- What if my experience is only phlebotomy?
- Say phlebotomy. Do not describe analyzer work you have not done.
