Lab technician resume tips

A lab technician resume should name the bench and the specimens you handled. Accessioning, phlebotomy, chemistry, hematology, and microbiology setup are different assignments. Quality checks you ran belong on the page. An instrument you have not operated does not. Write the credential you hold, and do not claim a technologist scope you were not given.

Cover letter for a lab technician

What to put first

State the lab: hospital, reference, clinic, or a physician office, and your credential if you have one, in the issuer's words. Then the bench. If you drew blood and also ran waived tests, split those lines.

Specimens

Say what you received, labeled, spun, rejected, or set up. A mislabeled story about someone else does not belong. Your habit of checking identifiers does.

The instrument

Name the bench and the kind of analyzer only if you ran it, including calibration or controls you performed. Loading a sample someone else resulted is a different line from releasing a result you were authorized to release.

Quality

Controls, temperatures, and proficiency events you took part in are the professional core. Do not invent a turnaround figure. Do not claim you directed the lab.

An example line

Adapt this only where it is true for you. It is a shape for a bullet, not a claim that a particular person did this work.

Hospital lab assistant on the chemistry bench: accessioned samples, spun and loaded the analyzer, and stopped a run when the morning controls were outside the range the procedure allowed.

What to leave off

Leave off instruments you have not run, results you were not allowed to verify, and a technologist or specialist credential you do not hold. Leave off patient identifiers. Leave off a research method you only read about.

Questions

What title should I use if the lab called me an assistant?
Use the title you had. Describe the bench. Do not upgrade assistant work to a technologist title to match a posting.
Should I list every analyzer brand?
Name the bench and that you ran controls. A brand helps only if you can still operate that class of instrument.
