Marketing manager cover letter

Marketing letters fail when they praise the brand and never say what the writer would be responsible for. Open on the audience and the channel in the posting, then connect one program you ran.

Resume tips for a marketing manager

How to open

State the lane: product launch, local store marketing, retention, or brand. Name a program you ran for a similar audience. Skip compliments about their latest commercial unless you are making a specific point about your experience.

Show the handoff

Say who you worked with: an agency, a founder, a sales lead. Managing that handoff is often the job. Pretending you did every task yourself is not more impressive.

Match the company stage

A first marketing hire and a manager inside a large brand team do different work. Choose the example that matches their stage, or say that your experience is the other one.

No promised growth

Do not tell them their pipeline or their awareness will change by some amount. You do not have their numbers, and the letter should not invent them.

An example paragraph

This is an example to adapt, not a letter from a real applicant. Use it only where every detail is true for you.

You are hiring a manager for lifecycle programs aimed at existing customers. I ran the welcome and win-back email for a consumer product, with design owned by a teammate, which is the split your posting describes.

What to skip

Skip a tour of the brand's values, a list of social networks, and any claim that you "live and breathe" the category. The work is the argument.

Questions

Should I attach a case study?
Attach one only if they asked or the form allows it, and only if you can share it. Otherwise one example in the letter is enough.
What if my experience is in a different industry?
Say what transfers: the channel and the kind of audience. Do not pretend you already know their buyers.
