ApplyASAP

What is your notice period?

Notice period is the time you will keep working after you resign. The form wants that length so a start date is real. It is a fact about an agreement, not a measure of excitement.

What the employer is checking

They are checking that your start date is possible, and that you treat an agreement as real. A notice you shorten on the form and restore later makes the start date look like a lure. If you are free now, they want to know that too.

How to answer honestly

State the notice your current agreement requires. If you have no job, say you have no notice to give. If a contract has an end, say that. Do not offer to walk out sooner than you are willing and allowed to. If you hope to negotiate a shorter notice and have not done it, do not write the shorter one as if it were settled.

A short example

These are shapes, not answers from a real applicant. Use the stronger one only where every detail is true for you.

Good. I am employed, and I owe the notice written in my agreement. I would give that notice when I accept an offer. I will not treat it as optional in order to start sooner.

Bad. I can start immediately. I will give no notice, or I will say I am sick, so you do not have to wait. Write down that my notice is nothing.

Pitfalls

  • Promising a shorter notice than the one you signed.
  • Giving notice before you have an offer, because a form sounded urgent.
  • Answering with a start date, or with a clause about who you may work for next, when they asked for notice.

How ApplyASAP answers it

ApplyASAP uses the notice you told it, and it keeps that consistent with the start date you gave. It does not shrink the notice to make you look more available, and it never invents experience at an employer you have already left.

ApplyASAP drafts answers from your real resume and never invents experience. It does not change your employers, dates, degrees, or titles, and it does not invent a number, a certification, or a person you managed.

Questions

What if I do not remember the length?
Read the agreement before you submit words you will have to keep. If the form allows it, say you will confirm the notice from the agreement rather than guessing.
Should I mention unused leave?
Only when it changes when you can start and you know that is true. Do not assume leave replaces notice unless the agreement says so.
